[Overview] This herb is also known as Jin Qian Cao, Opposite-leaf Jin Qian Cao, Jiangsu Jin Qian Cao, and Jin Qian Cao. It is the whole herb of Glechoma longituba (Nakai) Kupr, a plant of the Lamiaceae family. It is produced throughout the country. Harvested from spring to autumn, impurities are removed and it is sun-dried.

[Properties] Taste: pungent, slightly bitter; nature: slightly cold. Enters the Liver, Kidney, and Bladder meridians.

[Actions] Promotes urination to relieve stranguria, clears heat and detoxifies, disperses blood stasis and reduces swelling.

[Applications]
1. Used for heat stranguria and stone stranguria, symptoms include frequent urination, urgent urination, painful urination, and in severe cases, lower abdominal cramping pain during urination. Commonly combined with Jin Qian Cao, Plantago seed (Che Qian Zi), and lotus rhizome nodes (Ou Jie).
2. Used for damp-heat jaundice, symptoms include yellowing of the skin and eyes, yellow urine, accompanied by bitter taste in the mouth and greasy tongue coating. Can be used alone or combined with Jin Qian Cao, dandelion (Pu Gong Ying), gardenia (Shan Zhi), scutellaria (Huang Qin), and alisma (Ze Xie).
3. Used for sores, abscesses, and wind-damp-heat painful obstruction syndrome, as well as traumatic injury with blood stasis swelling and pain. For sores and abscesses, generally apply fresh herb mashed and applied topically; for heat painful obstruction swelling and pain, the herb can be pounded into fluff, stir-fried with wine until warm and applied externally; combined with Du Huo root, pounded into juice, taken with water and wine, with the residue applied externally, can treat traumatic injury with blood stasis swelling and pain.

[Dosage and Administration] Internal use: decoction 15–30 g; or soaked in wine; or pounded juice. External use: appropriate amount, mashed and applied or juice squeezed and applied topically.

[Cautions] Use with caution in cases of yin sores, blood deficiency, and pregnancy.

1. Chemical constituents: The stems and leaves contain volatile oils, with main components including pinene, menthone, Glechoma furan, and Glechoma lactone. Additionally, it contains ursolic acid, palmitic acid, caffeic acid, ferulic acid, choline, vitamin C, and others.
2. Pharmacological actions: This herb can promote bile secretion by liver cells, increasing bile volume in the liver and bile ducts, raising internal pressure, relaxing the biliary sphincter, thereby facilitating bile discharge; the decoction has a significant diuretic effect, which gradually decreases with continuous use; it has litholytic effects, acidifying urine to dissolve stones that form under alkaline conditions; it is highly sensitive to Staphylococcus aureus, moderately sensitive to Shigella dysenteriae, and not sensitive to Pseudomonas aeruginosa or Salmonella typhi.
