[Overview] This herb is also known as Leishi, Leishi Fruit, Zhuling, and Leigong Wan. It is the sclerotium of Omphalia lapidescens Schroet., a fungus of the Polyporaceae family. It is mainly produced in Henan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Yunnan, Guizhou, and other regions. It can be harvested year-round, but most are dug in autumn or in July to August. After harvesting, impurities are removed, mud and sand are washed off, then it is sun-dried or baked dry.
[Properties] Slightly bitter in taste, cold in nature. Enters the Stomach and Large Intestine meridians.
[Actions] Kills parasites, reduces food accumulation.
[Applications]
1. Used for tapeworm, hookworm, and roundworm infections. It can be taken alone as a powder mixed with rice soup, or combined with Quisqualis (Shijunzi), Centipeda (Heshi), Torreya seeds (Feizi), Areca nut (Binglang), etc. For treating parasitic accumulation with abdominal pain, it is combined with Atractylodes (Baizhu), Aucklandia (Muxiang), Rhubarb (Dahuang), as in the formula Zhui Chong Wan.
2. Used for pediatric malnutrition with heat, abdominal distension, emaciation, and abnormal thinness; often combined with Aloe (Luhui), Picrorhiza (Huhuanglian), Toad (Xiama), as in the formula Luhui Wan.
[Dosage and Administration] Internal use: grind into powder, 15–21 g, divided into 3 doses, taken after meals with warm water, continuously for 3 days; or made into pills.
[Cautions] This herb should not be decocted. It is contraindicated in those without parasitic accumulation; use with caution in cases of parasitic accumulation with spleen and stomach cold deficiency.

Pharmacological actions: Omphalia shows significant killing and expelling effects on tapeworms, intestinal trichomonads, roundworms, and hookworms; Omphalia polysaccharides have notable anti-inflammatory effects, significantly increasing plasma corticosterone levels without changing adrenal ascorbic acid content; protease extracted from Omphalia (about 5% content), administered by intramuscular or intraperitoneal injection, shows certain inhibitory effects on mouse sarcoma S180.
