[Overview] This herb is also known as Jiuci or Chinese Chive Seed. It is the mature seed of Allium tuberosum Rottl, a plant of the Liliaceae family. It is produced throughout China, with larger yields in Hebei, Shanxi, Jilin, Jiangsu, Shandong, Anhui, and Henan provinces. When the fruit matures in autumn, the flower stalks are cut with scissors, tied into small bundles, dried in a ventilated place, threshed, and sun-dried.

[Properties] The taste is pungent and sweet; the nature is warm. It enters the Liver and Kidney meridians.

[Applications]
1. Used for decline of Kidney Yang and insufficiency of Liver and Kidney causing impotence and soreness and weakness of the lumbar region and knees. It can be combined with Cuscuta (Tusizi), Epimedium (Yinyanghuo), Morinda (Bajitian), etc. For severe soreness and pain in the lumbar region due to Liver and Kidney deficiency, it can be combined with Eucommia (Duzhong), Dragon Bone (Longgu), and Lycium (Gouqizi).
2. Used for seminal emission due to unstable Kidney Qi, premature ejaculation, frequent urination, enuresis, turbid urine, and excessive leukorrhea. For seminal emission and excessive clear leukorrhea, it is often combined with Dragon Bone and Cuscuta; for frequent urination and enuresis, it can be combined with Psoralea (Buguzhi) and Alpinia (Yizhiren); for turbid painful urination, it can be combined with Plantago seed (Cheqianzi).

[Dosage and Administration] Internal use: decoction, 3–9 g; or incorporated into pills or powders.

[Cautions] Contraindicated in cases of Yin deficiency with excessive fire.
