[Overview] This product is also known as Lujiao Baishuang. It is the bone residue remaining after boiling the antlers of deer from the Cervidae family, specifically the sika deer Cervus nippon Temminck or the red deer Cervus elaphus L., to extract Cornu Cervi gelatin. It is mainly produced in Jilin, Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Beijing, Shandong, and other regions. Production occurs in the spring and autumn of the twelve seasonal periods. The ossified antlers are boiled to remove the gelatin, then the antler pieces are taken out and dried.

[Properties] Salty in taste, warm in nature. Enters the Kidney and Liver meridians.

[Actions] Warms the Kidney and assists Yang, astringes and stops bleeding.

[Applications] 1. Used for Kidney Yang deficiency, depletion of essence and blood, impotence, infertility due to uterine cold; often combined with Cistanche deserticola (Rou Cong Rong), prepared Aconite root (Shu Fu Pian), Morinda officinalis (Ba Ji Tian), etc., as in formulas such as Lujiaoshuang Wan (鹿角霜丸).
2. Used for Kidney deficiency with spermatorrhea, enuresis, uterine bleeding, leukorrhea, and turbid urine. To treat Kidney deficiency with unstable essence gate, nocturnal emission, and diarrhea, it can be combined with oyster shell (Mu Li), dragon bone (Long Gu), etc.; for elderly patients with Kidney Qi deficiency and frequent urination with incontinence, often combined with Poria (Fu Ling); for Kidney Yang deficiency cold with unstable Chong and Ren channels and persistent uterine bleeding, combined with Angelica sinensis (Dang Gui), donkey-hide gelatin (E Jiao), and charred mugwort leaf (Ai Ye Tan); for leukorrhea that is clear, thin, and odorless, often combined with Codonopsis pilosula (Dang Shen), Atractylodes macrocephala (Bai Zhu), and Euryale seed (Qian Shi); for chronic painful urinary dribbling with no obvious strangury but with lumbar pain as if broken, combined with Poria (Fu Ling) and autumn stone (Qiu Shi).
3. Used for Spleen and Kidney deficiency with poor appetite and loose stools, often combined with dried ginger (Gan Jiang), Atractylodes macrocephala (Bai Zhu), and tangerine peel (Chen Pi); for chronic diarrhea and dysentery with incontinence, further combined with Psoralea corylifolia (Bu Gu Zhi) and nutmeg (Rou Dou Kou).

[Dosage and Administration] Internal use: decoct 9–15 g, decoct first; or used in pills or powders.

[Modern Research] 1. The main chemical components are calcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, nitrogenous compounds, and gelatinous substances; it also contains various amino acids.
2. Clinical report on acute mastitis: In the treatment group of 30 cases, each dose contained 15 g Cornu Cervi Degelatinatum, 50 g scallion white, and 300 ml water; first boiled rapidly, then simmered on low heat for 10–15 minutes, taken with a small amount of yellow wine, three times daily for 3–5 days. The control group of 26 cases took Xianfeng IV 250 mg, four times daily for 3–5 days. Results showed that after 5 days of treatment, the total cure number in the treatment group was 28, with a cure rate of 93.3%; the control group had 18 cures out of 26 cases, a cure rate of 69.2%.
