[Overview] This herb is also known as Dongkuizi, Kuicaizi, and Kuizi. It is the mature fruit of Malva verticillata L., a plant of the Malvaceae family. It is found throughout China and is commonly used as a dampness-removing herb by the Mongolian ethnic group. The fruit is harvested in summer and autumn when mature, impurities are removed, and then it is dried in the shade.

[Properties] Taste: sweet and astringent; nature: cold. Enters the Bladder, Large Intestine, and Small Intestine meridians.

[Actions] Clears heat and promotes urination; reduces swelling and promotes lactation; moistens the intestines and relieves constipation.

[Applications]
1. Used for stranguria, edema, and difficult urination. For heat stranguria with painful, scanty urination, it is often combined with Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen), and Qu Mai (Dianthi Herba). For hematuria stranguria, it can be combined with Da Xiao Ji (Herba Eupatorii) or Xiao Ji (Herba Centellae), Baimaogen (Rhizoma Imperatae), and Sheng Di (Radix Rehmanniae). For sandy or stone stranguria, it can be combined with Haijinsha (Lygodii Spora) and Jinqiancao (Lysimachiae Herba). For edema and difficult urination, it can be combined with Fuling (Poria), Zhuling (Polyporus), and Yiren (Semen Coicis).
2. Used for insufficient lactation and breast abscess. For insufficient lactation in women, it is often combined with Chuanshanjia (Manis Pentadactyla) and Wangbuliuxing (Vaccariae Semen). For breast abscess, it can be combined with Loulou (Trichosanthes Fructus), Gualou (Trichosanthis Fructus), Chishao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra), and Baizhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae).
3. Used for intestinal dryness and constipation; it can be combined with Sheng Di (Radix Rehmanniae), Xuan Shen (Radix Scrophulariae), and Huomaren (Cannabis Semen).
