[Overview] This herb is also known as Sang Shang Jisheng, Parasitic Herb, Parasitic Tree, and Vine Wood. It is the leafy twig of Taxillus chinensis (DC.) Danser, a plant of the Loranthaceae family. It is mainly produced in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, and other regions. Harvested from winter to the following spring, the coarse stems are removed, then cut into four sections and dried or steamed and dried.

[Properties] Bitter and sweet in taste, neutral in nature. Enters the Liver and Kidney meridians.

[Actions] Tonifies the Liver and Kidneys, strengthens sinews and bones, dispels wind-dampness, and calms the fetus.

[Applications]
1. Wind-dampness: Used for soreness and pain in the lumbar region due to Liver and Kidney deficiency, weakness of sinews and bones, and weakness in feet and knees. Commonly combined with Xu Duan (Dipsaci Radix), Du Zhong (Eucommiae Cortex), and Gou Ji (Cibotii Rhizoma). For chronic Bi syndrome injuring Liver and Kidney, it is more suitable and often combined with Du Huo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Du Zhong, and Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), as in the formula Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang (独活寄生汤). For Liver and Kidney Yin deficiency with wind-yang disturbance causing dizziness and blurred vision, and soreness and weakness of the lumbar and knees, it is often combined with Di Huang, He Shou Wu (Polygonum multiflorum), and Tian Ma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma). Currently, it is commonly used clinically to treat mild hypertension presenting with headache and dizziness.
2. Used for Liver and Kidney deficiency, essence and blood deficiency, unstable fetus with restless movement or threatened miscarriage with bleeding, soreness in the lumbar and abdominal pain. Often combined with Chuan Duan (Dipsaci Radix), Tu Si Zi (Cuscutae Semen), and E Jiao (Asini Corii Colla), as in the formula Shou Tai Wan (寿胎丸).

[Dosage and Administration] Internal use: decoction, 9–15 g; or incorporated into pills or powders; soaked in wine or taken as juice.

[Modern Research]
1. Chemical constituents: Leaves of Sichuan Ramulus Taxilli contain flavonoids such as quercetin, quercitrin, phellopterin glycoside, and a small amount of dextrorotatory catechol.
2. Pharmacological effects: Aqueous extract, ethanol aqueous extract, and 30% ethanol extract of Ramulus Taxilli all have hypotensive effects on anesthetized animals; phellopterin glycoside shows significant diuretic effects in experimental animals; decoctions or tinctures exhibit significant inhibitory effects in vitro against spinal cord poliovirus and other enteroviruses; water extracts inhibit hepatitis B virus surface antigen activity.
3. Clinical reports: Primary hypertension—using Ramulus Taxilli 60 g and Cassia seeds (Jue Ming Zi) 50 g, decocted in water and taken once daily. A total of 65 cases were treated.
