[Overview] This herb is also known as Hu Ma Zi and Ya Ma Ren. It is the mature seed of Linum usitatissimum L., a plant of the Linaceae family. It is mainly produced in the Northeast region. The plant is harvested in autumn when the fruit matures, then dried in the sun, threshed to obtain the seeds, impurities are removed, and then dried again.

[Properties] Sweet in taste, neutral in nature. Enters the Lung, Liver, and Large Intestine meridians.

[Actions] Moistens the intestines and unblocks the bowels; dispels wind and moistens dryness.

[Applications]
1. Used for dry intestines and constipation; can be combined with Angelica sinensis (Dang Gui), Morus alba fruit (Sang Shen), etc., to make pills for oral administration.
2. Used for dry, itchy skin and hair withering and loss. For dry skin, it can be combined with Angelica sinensis (Dang Gui), Lithospermum erythrorhizon (Zi Cao), etc., to make honey pills for oral use; for hair loss, combined with Rehmannia glutinosa (Shu Di Huang), Angelica sinensis (Dang Gui), Cistanche deserticola (Rou Cong Rong), etc.
