1. Chemical constituents: Danggui contains volatile oils, with main components including ligustilide, butylidenephthalide, angelicone, and myrcene phenol. It also contains water-soluble components such as ferulic acid, succinic acid, niacin, uracil, adenine, beta-sitosterol D-glucoside, vanillic acid, and hookworm fluorescent substances. Additionally, it contains polysaccharides, various amino acids, vitamins, and essential trace elements.

2. Pharmacological effects: Danggui volatile oil and ferulic acid inhibit uterine smooth muscle contraction, while its water- or alcohol-soluble non-volatile substances excite uterine smooth muscle. Butylidenephthalide antagonizes histamine and acetylcholine-induced experimental asthma in guinea pigs. It has anti-platelet aggregation, anti-thrombosis, anti-myocardial ischemia, vasodilation, and lipid-lowering effects; enhances both nonspecific and specific immune functions; protects against carbon tetrachloride-induced liver injury in mice and promotes hepatocyte regeneration and recovery; also exhibits sedative, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-hypoxia, anti-radiation damage, tumor growth inhibition, and in vitro antibacterial effects.

3. Clinical reports:
1) Sudden deafness: 20 ml of 200% Danggui injection added to 20 ml of 30% glucose, intravenous injection once daily for 15–20 days. Treatment of 105 early sudden deafness cases showed a total effective rate of 75%. [Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine, 1986, 6(9):536]
2) Arrhythmia: 60–120 ml of 25%–50% Danggui injection by intravenous push or drip once daily; or 20 ml of 150% Danggui syrup orally three times daily. Treatment of 100 cases showed 51.4% effectiveness for ventricular premature beats, ineffective for atrioventricular and intraventricular conduction disorders. [Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 1981, (7):54]
3) Enuresis: Danggui 60 g, Plantaginis Herba 30 g, stir-fried Ephedrae Herba 10 g, decocted to 200 ml; children under 14 years take 100 ml, over 14 years take 200 ml, one hour before sleep.
