[Overview] This product is also known as beeswax, yellow wax, or white wax. It is the decomposed wax secreted by honeybees of the family Apidae, specifically the Chinese honeybee Apis cerana Fabricius or the Italian honeybee Apis mellifera Linnaeus. It is produced throughout China. The wax is obtained by placing honeycombs in water and heating, then filtering and condensing to collect the wax, or by further refining. The cooled product is yellow beeswax; after bleaching, it becomes white beeswax.

[Actions] Detoxifies and promotes tissue regeneration, dispels dampness and stops dysentery.
[Applications]
1. Used for carbuncles and furuncles on the back, and non-healing ulcers. For carbuncles and furuncles on the back, it can be combined with alum, realgar, amber, cinnabar, etc., made into pills such as Amber Beeswax Alum Pills (琥珀蜡矾丸). For ulcers after carbuncles, often combined with raw Rehmannia, Angelica sinensis, and sesame oil to make an external ointment, such as Beeswax Ointment (白蜡膏). For sores, traumatic wounds, and burns, this product can be cooked with sesame oil and red lead to make an ointment applied to the affected area.
2. Used for dysentery, seminal emission, and leukorrhea. For dysentery with red and white stools and abdominal pain, it can be combined with donkey-hide gelatin dissolved together and mixed with powdered Coptis chinensis, taken warm, as in the formula Tiao Qi Yin (调气饮). For seminal emission, leukorrhea, and milky vaginal discharge, it can be combined with Poria and Polyporus to make pills for internal use. Additionally, it can treat fetal restlessness during pregnancy, abdominal pain with bleeding, and acute pain.

[Modern Research]
1. Chemical constituents: Beeswax mainly consists of four categories: esters (such as palmitate esters of beeswax alcohols), free acids (such as cerotic acid, tetracosanoic acid), free alcohols (such as beeswax alcohol, n-octacosanol), and hydrocarbons (such as pentacosane, heptacosane). It also contains trace amounts of volatile oils and pigments.
2. Pharmacological effects: Chinese beeswax has reactive oxygen species scavenging activity; beeswax and its emulsions exhibit antibacterial and preservative effects and can prolong heparin anticoagulation time.
3. Clinical reports: For infant anal ulceration, use 50 g beeswax and 100 g sesame oil, decocted and mixed, then cooled. After cleaning and gently drying the ulcerated area, apply with a small brush and cover with sterile gauze. Hold the infant’s buttocks together to clamp the medication and gauze; after the beeswax solidifies, remove it. Apply 1–3 times daily or after each defecation. In 25 cases of anal redness, swelling, heat, pain, and ulceration caused by diarrhea, 10 cases healed after 2 applications, 10 cases after 4 applications, and 5 cases after 6 applications.
