[Overview] This herb is also known as Tianmen Dong, Si Dong, Tian Ji, and Da Dang Men Gen. It is the tuberous root of Asparagus cochinchinensis (Lour.) Merr., a plant of the Liliaceae family. It is mainly produced in Guizhou, Guangxi, Yunnan, Shaanxi, Gansu, Anhui, Hubei, Henan, Hunan, and Jiangxi provinces. The roots are harvested in autumn and winter, washed clean, with the stem base and fibrous roots removed. They are then boiled or steamed in boiling water until thoroughly cooked, peeled while hot, washed again, and dried.
