1. Chemical constituents: Contains mannitol, stearic acid, bamboo red pigment A and B, also contains cephalosporins, stearic acid esters, potassium hydroxide, and waxy substances. Also contains various amino acids and organic acids.
2. Pharmacological effects: The bamboo red pigment B in Tianzhuhuang has significant analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, shows good inhibitory effects on Gram-positive bacteria, and exhibits notable photodynamic effects on cultured human cancer cells and transplanted solid tumors in mice.
3. Clinical reports: Cataracts—Tianzhuhuang blocks are cut with a small knife into cylindrical shapes approximately 3 mm in diameter and 8 mm in length, with the end contacting the lens shaped into a slope, then sterilized under high pressure in a small box for later use. The surgical procedure begins as usual; after exposing the cloudy lens capsule, the lens surface or some aqueous humor is wiped dry with a cotton swab, then the sloped end of Tianzhuhuang is placed near the upper equator of the anterior lens capsule, adhered for 10 seconds, then gently lifted to slowly deliver the lens outward. Six cases (8 eyes) were observed with all surgeries successful and complete lens removal. [Ophthalmology Advances, 1993, 13(1):37]
