[Overview] This herb is also known as Tujingpi, Jingshupi, and Jinqiansongpi. It is the root bark and near-root bark of Pseudolarix kaempferi Gord., a species in the Pinaceae family. It is distributed in Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, Fujian, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, and other regions. The bark is peeled in summer, washed clean, and sun-dried.
[Properties] The taste is acrid and bitter; the nature is warm and it is toxic. It enters the Lung and Spleen meridians.
[Actions] Dispel wind, kill parasites, and relieve itching.
[Applications]
1. Used for scabies, neurodermatitis; often used alone by soaking in alcohol for topical application or ground into powder mixed with vinegar for topical use. Currently, 10%–50% tinctures of Cortex Pseudolaricis are commonly used externally.
2. Used for eczema and skin itching; used alone or combined with Sophora flavescens (Kushen), Rheum palmatum (Dahuang), Phellodendron amurense (Huangbai) soaked in alcohol for external use.
[Dosage and Administration] External use: appropriate amount, applied topically by soaking in alcohol or mixed powder.
[Cautions] This herb is toxic and should only be used externally; internal use is not recommended.
