[Overview] This herb is also known as Ranqingcao, Lanye, Dianqingye, and Landianye. It is the leaf of Polygonum tinctorium Ait., a plant of the Polygonaceae family. It is mainly produced in Hebei, Tianjin, Beijing, and Shanxi provinces. The branches and leaves are harvested in summer and autumn when luxuriant, impurities are removed, and then dried in the sun.
[Properties] Bitter in taste, cold in nature. Enters the Heart and Stomach meridians.
[Actions] Clears heat and detoxifies, cools the blood and dispels spots.
[Applications]
1. Used for febrile diseases with fever, rash, and bleeding such as hematemesis and epistaxis.
2. Used for lung-heat induced asthma and cough, sore throat, and throat obstruction.
