[Modern Research]
1. Chemical constituents: The whole herb contains racemic methyl isopelletierine, dihydroisopelletierine, 3-formyl-1,4-dihydroxy dihydropyran, N-methyl-2β-hydroxypropylpiperidine, sedumoside, β-sitosterol, mannitol, amino acids, glucose, fructose, and sedoheptulose.
2. Pharmacological effects: Herba Sedumsarmentosum has a significant protective effect against carbon tetrachloride-induced liver injury, increasing glucose-6-phosphatase and lactate dehydrogenase levels in hepatocytes, enhancing succinate dehydrogenase and ATPase activities in liver cells; its hepatoprotective effect may be related to these actions. Sedumoside has immunosuppressive effects similar to steroid hormones, causing peripheral T cells to migrate to bone marrow.
3. Clinical reports: For phlebitis and local redness, swelling, heat, and pain after intramuscular injection: fresh Herba Sedumsarmentosum is washed, drained, mashed, mixed with 3–4 ml of 70%–75% ethanol, applied to the affected area, covered with plastic film and bandaged; replaced after drying. Over 20 cases were treated, with redness, swelling, and pain disappearing after 1–3 applications. [Qinzhou Medicine, 1980, (1):55]
