[Overview] This item is also known as Fangkuaitong and Shisui Lead. It is a sulfide mineral belonging to the pyrite group, Pyrite. It is produced in Liaoning, Hebei, Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Sichuan, Yunnan, and other regions. It can be mined year-round. After collection, impurities such as stones, sand, and black rust are removed. It is then broken into small pieces, and the bright yellow pieces are selected for medicinal use.
[Properties] Pungent in taste, neutral in nature. Enters the Liver meridian.
[Actions] Disperses blood stasis and relieves pain; promotes bone healing and tendon repair.
[Applications] Used for traumatic injuries such as bruises, tendon rupture, and bone fractures with swelling and pain. This item is especially suitable for fractures and is often combined with frankincense, myrrh, and ground beetle (Di Bie Chong) for both internal and external use. For treating traumatic injuries and pain, it can be combined with Sumu (Caesalpinia sappan), frankincense, myrrh, and blood scorpion, as in the formula Balisan (Eight Li Powder). Additionally, it can treat ulcers, burns, and goiter. It can be ground with licorice and Huangbai (Phellodendron bark), mixed with water, and applied topically or used as a dry compress.
[Dosage and Administration] Internal use: decoct 3–9 g, added first in decoction; or used in pills or powders. It is recommended to calcine with fire, quench in vinegar, then grind into powder and suspend in water for use. External use: appropriate amount, ground into powder and applied topically.
[Cautions] Contraindicated in cases of yin deficiency with excessive fire or blood deficiency without blood stasis.
