[Overview] This herb is also known as Yibaozhen and Qiankezhen. It is the rhizome of Homalomena occulta (Lour.) Schott, a plant of the Araceae family. It is mainly produced in Guangdong, Hainan, Guangxi, and Yunnan provinces. The rhizomes are harvested in spring and autumn, washed clean, peeled, and sun-dried.

[Properties] Bitter and pungent in taste, warm in nature. Enters the Liver and Kidney meridians.

[Actions] Dispels wind-dampness, strengthens sinews and bones.

[Applications] Used for wind-damp painful obstruction, soreness and pain of the limbs and joints, weakness of sinews and bones, traumatic injuries, stomach pain, and carbuncles with swelling and toxicity.

[Dosage and Administration] Internal use: decoct 4.5–9 g or soak in wine. External use: appropriate amount, ground into powder and applied topically.
